  172.    Chaldee and LXX. render; long the residence of the ancient
  173.    Egyptian kings, and situated fifteen miles above where the
  174.    Delta begins, on the western side of the Nile.  It was in the
  175.    neighbourhood of Memphis that the famous pyramids were
  176.    erected, whose grandeur and beauty still astonish the modern
  177.    traveller:  they are about twenty in number; the largest of
  178.    which is 481 feet perpendicular height, and the area of its
  179.    basis is on 480,249 square feet, or something more than eleven
  180.    acres, being exactly the size of Lincoln's Inn Fields in
  181.    London.  The immense ruins between the northern and southern
  182.    pyramids, and about fourteen miles from Cairo, still called
  183.    Memf, Menf, or Menouf, seem to mark the site of this city.
